Installation of our signs is very easy. Whether you have selected an aluminum, vinyl or Aluma Lite, you should be able to install your sign within a few minutes. Each type of sign will have different installation requirements. Here are some quick installation tips to assist you.

Aluminum Sign Installation

Our aluminum signs can be installed using a simple post or pole, or by attaching it to a wall. If you plan to install a sign using a pole, you will need to have a fence post digger, as well as brackets to attach the sign to the pole. A post should be approximately 7-8 feet long before it is buried. For optimal safety and security, two feet of this post should be buried under ground. You can then attach the sign using your brackets.

If you plan to install your sign on a wall, you will need to have a drill, as well as screws and washers. You may need a masonry or wood drill bit, depending on the installation surface. The washers should be placed behind the sign, against the wall.

You can also use a sign stand if you plan to temporarily display your sign. This works well for indoor installation as well. These stands can range in material from plastic to metal. A sign stand can be purchased at a local home improvement store or a hardware store.

Aluma Lite Sign Installation

Our aluma lite signs are large and may require extra installation help if you are not comfortable with installing it yourself. These signs are typically located on the roof or a wall of your building and can be attached using brackets or heavy duty screws. You can contact a local contractor for installation help.

Vinyl Sign Installation

Our vinyl signs can be installed using screws and washers, or by attaching a cord through the grommets of your sign. For permanent installation, you will need to use a drill, again, with either a masonry or wood drill bit as well as screws and washers. The washers should be placed between the grommets and the wall. The screws can then be inserted through the grommets to secure your sign.

If you plan to use rope or a cord to hang your sign, you will need to thread the cord through the grommets. You should leave enough length on either end of your sign to secure it to either hooks or brackets on the wall. It is important to have an equal length of cord on either side of the sign to ensure that your sign will hang evenly. If necessary, a support can be placed at the center of your sign to ensure that it does not sag.

As you plot and plan your retirement, there may be some things you are forgetting. Is your home maintenance free?

There are many things a person can do to their house to make it maintenance free.  Many seniors don’t think about this option and some attempt to do their own maintenance and instead end up in the Hospital Emergency Room.

The first thing you can do is prominently post a sign by your front door stating, “No Canvassers, Swindlers or Salespersons welcome.” That sign lets people know real quick what you think about them and just how welcome they are.

I was a contractor for many years. I was also an author and knowledgeable about the aging baby boomers and their need to have a maintenance free home in their great grey years. So I designed several ways a home owner could almost make their home completely maintenance free.

A rusted out leaking chimney cap can cause severe water damage in an unattended home. Depending on your environment they need replaced every 10-20 years. You can use a rust remover to preserve them or you can buy a stainless steel or aluminum chimney cap and not have to worry about it again.

Annual gutter cleaning can be avoided with durable gutter guards. Plastic or rust proof are preferable. Replace average down spouts with larger ones for a worry free gutter system. Having a drain tile system in place is also very convenient and removes possible water damage problems to the foundation of your home.

One area of a house that is always prone to rotting and water damage is the soffit and fascia. You can either use vinyl or durable hardy board siding to cover the wood to eliminate this problem.  Having this siding on the whole exterior of your house is also advisable for a maintenance free lifestyle.

Removing or replacing a wood fence with a vinyl fence can be costly, but it will never need a repair or to be replaced either. To eliminate weed eating around a perimeter fence, dig a 6 inch trench under the whole length of the fence and pour concrete into it.

Docks or decks can be made with plastic wood planks to last forever.

Metal roofs are maintenance free as well as energy efficient.

Sealing cracks in concrete with an elastic polymer crack sealant will add many years of life to a concrete driveway.

Replacing house numerals, mailboxes, and any exterior metal fixtures with plastic ones will eliminate future problems during your lazy retirement.

You can add many years of extra life to you’re A/C unit as well as slashing your electric bill by putting radiant barrier in your attic. It is the best and most cost efficient way to cut your electric bill, as well as doing your part to save our environment.

If you insist on keeping your wood exterior you can make a very strong and durable paint that is also energy efficient by adding ceramic microspheres to the paint.

I’ve had more then one customer explain to me how they were on the roof and slipped trying to make a repair on their own. They had the battle wounds to prove it. Plan a maintenance free retirement home and enjoy your life. You earned it.

Replacing old, drafty windows won’t just improve your home’s appearance, it could also save you money.

Windows are an important part of the form and function of your home. They’re one of the most noticeable exterior features of your home, and are probably the first thing that catches the eye a prospective buyer passing through your neighborhood. Also, windows contribute to the interior beauty of your home by providing natural light to certain areas.

In addition to their aesthetic qualities, windows can also have an impact on your energy bill.

Windows are an important part of your home’s style and function. They contribute to the energy efficiency and décor of your home. The articles below will help you select and install new windows, repair or replace a broken window, and decorate your windows with stylish window treatments.

According to EnergyStar, the U.S. government organization tasked with assessing product energy efficiency, homeowners spend half their average yearly power bill on heating and cooling. Old drafty windows do a terrible job of keeping warm air inside during the winter and cool air inside in the summer, and could potentially cost you hundreds of dollars in additional energy consumption.

Determining the condition of your current windows should be step one of any window replacement project. Inspect existing window frames, sills and surrounding exterior siding for any possible damage. Also ensure your windows are working properly by opening and closing them.

Choosing what type of window material you want to use is the next step. Solid wood frames are the traditional favorite, but also are expensive, don’t age well and require lots of maintenance. Vinyl frames are cheaper, but usually only come in white and tend to fade over time. Aluminum window frames provide longevity, but are the most expensive.

Glass type and window design should be your next consideration. Certain areas of your home, like near a bathtub, stairs or window seat, will require tempered glass, which is more expensive. Also, large windows and windows with elaborate grids or designs will also add to the overall cost of your window project. Be sure to factor all of this in when setting a budget for your project.

After making these decisions, you may decide to hire a contractor for the project. Shop around for price quotes, inquire into prospective contractors’ work reputations, and if decide to do it yourself, make sure to read lots of books and instructional materials so you know what you’re doing before you start your project.

A new set of windows can give your house a major facelift, improving its market value and energy efficiency, but only if you make the right decisions. Be informed and be aware and your new windows will prove to be a worthwhile investment.

Sod is exceptionally inexpensive way to bring your lawn to life. Sod is grown on sod farms and pre-cut and rolled up in 3’ x 1’ squares. Not just any body can lay sod properly. There are several aspects to consider when laying sod. First, the grade must be set accordingly for efficient drainage. New top spoil is needed so the sod has fresh, nutrient rich dirt. The seams of each piece of sod must be staggered so the sod does not wash away from heavy rain or floods. This will also promote optimal settling. After the sod is laid, it is extremely important to keep the sod saturated for the first 3-4 weeks. Before a lawn mower can go on the sod, test the corners of sod by grabbing a handful of the grass and lift up. If it takes significant strength to lift it is safe to trim with a lawn mower.

Flower Beds are a fantastic way to accent the décor of your landscape. Creating a new flower bed can be quite tasking. A general design before hand is helpful in order to be satisfied with the finished product. In many cases, grass and sod needs to be removed, along with unwanted plants or shrubbery. The next step would be to out line the flower bed with vinyl edging or better yet stone. New top soil is ideal especially if you plan to plant flowers or shrubs. To prevent weeds, consider buying a roll of nylon weed block to lie down before decorative stone or mulch. It would be best to hire a landscape service to handle creating your new flower bed and planting.

Planting is a very delicate process. Certain plants need to be planted at certain times, certain depths and methods. Most plants do come with planting instructions. For optimal plant life and appearance, you should follow the planting instructions exact. Some of the things to consider is where the plant is going, how big does it get and are there any underground obstructions such as electrical and gas lines that can be severed while digging. It is in your best interest to look into hiring a reputable landscape service.

If you are looking for more landscape information or are looking to hire a landscape contractor, visit the DFW Landscape Service web site.

Although the housing market has finally managed to pull itself out of the recent slump, those who are currently looking to sell their houses may still encounter a degree of difficulty. After all, most potential buyers are still trying to underbid on quality homes by capitalizing on the effects of the past couple of years. And given the competition of the market, it can be difficult for an average homeowner to set his house apart from similar properties in the area.

When your home is for sale

If your home has been on the real estate market for far too long without a buyer, it might be time to take some steps in order to get it sold. Certain interior improvements can appeal to buyers on a large scale because most buyers these days are interested in spacious kitchens, upgraded bathrooms and storage space that go above and beyond their general expectations.

However, although some improvements can make your house more appealing, they will not necessarily help move your house off the market faster. After all, it’s not a secret that most buyers prefer high-end kitchens and bathrooms coupled with ample storage. And for this reason, a large percentage of homeowners have made such improvements to the best of their abilities. But on the other hand, many sellers seem to be neglecting the importance of the exterior.

How to improve the exterior

A.W. Ross is the controller of Lundberg Roofing, Windows & Siding, a business that has been serving the Charlotte, North Carolina area since 1979, and according to him, exterior improvements can increase the value of your home and make it far more marketable in the process. If you’re serious about selling your house, you should be aware that when potential buyers arrive to scope out your property, the exterior will be the first thing that they see. Therefore, it’s a good idea to focus your cash-based energy on improving the appearance of your home.

The addition of siding or siding replacement can improve the exterior of your home. In recent years, vinyl siding has become an affordable yet attractive option for outdoor enhancement. It is available in a variety of colors and can do an excellent job insulating as well as covering a worn household facade. Since vinyl siding is known for its ability to save homeowners money throughout the years on heating and cooling, it is a wise method of home improvement for those who are looking to set their houses apart from the rest.

Adding a new roof is another way to improve the exterior. A buyer will certainly hesitate to take the house if he has to deal with a deteriorating leaking roof down the line. Therefore, if your current roof is older and isn’t in the best of shape, adding a new roof might be a worthwhile investment.

Adding a patio, deck or sunroom can enhance your open-air space if you happen to live in the area where the climate is conducive to outdoor living all year round. While some buyers might be content to simply drag out some lawn chairs and plant them next to the grill in the backyard, others are looking for defined spaces and areas for outdoor dining and entertainment.

In short, if you want to give your home a leg up on the local competition, you’ll need to highlight the aspects with which other houses in the area can’t compete. By making some or all of the exterior improvements mentioned above, you can increase your chances of selling your home for top dollar.

You can ask them to replace your existing untidy and unattractive window pane into new, attractive ones. The measurement of these window panes have to be done with utmost care as the approximations will not work in case of Virginia Window Replacement. The replacement windows are made up of substances such as aluminum, vinyl, glass etc. Employing tough glasses in window panes will need extra support and care. Thus professional installers are the only option that you can rely upon.  In order to make these window panes look cozy, you may have to reduce the size of the glass and thicken the supporting edges. You can use double glazed glass replacement windows. These double gazed panes have two different panes for attaching two different types of glasses. This will eventually, help in decreasing pollution, noise and moisture and maintaining the warmth inside the house.

The main advantage behind getting these Virginia Window Replacement panes is that they do not need welding or any other rigorous mechanical process. They can be fixed inside the present window pane. It is light in weight and thus only needs bolting from within. It is recommended that you install these replacement windows from the inside of your house. This will prove to be comfortable and safe too. Moreover, if you are finding it difficult for you to arrange for the funds to get your house windows replaces, you can contact a Virginia replacement window contractor and he will arrange for a financer to your replacement.             Before going in for actual replacement process, you can get an online quotation for the approximate cost involved in your replacement work. These online services ask you for your existing window dimensions and accordingly calculate the cost for the desired number of replacements. You will also get a “Free Insider’s Guide to Replacement Windows” with these quotes in which you can find the answers to all your queries. If you are not in a mood to spend too much on the replacement of these window panes, you can go in for more economical options. The existing window structure can be corrected if it has gaps in it or in between the frame and the wall. Plastic strips can be used to fill up this gap. This act will not be performed by any reputed contractor and will have to be taken care of at a lower level.

Are you looking for Virginia replacement window contractor? The best Virginia Window Replacement Company is here!

There are several different pool styles, each with its own advantages and disadvantages and uses.

Above-ground pools -These are the cheapest construction option, as well as the easiest to build. Most above-ground pools are made from prefabricated kits, which even an amateur can put. First, the installers level off the ground to form a flat building surface. Then they assemble a perimeter track, which supports the outer wall made of metal, plastic or wood. Next, they spread sand in the pool area and lay the plumbing. Finally, they secure the vinyl liner over the pool walls, fill the pool with water, smooth the liner and fasten it into place. As soon as they hook up the pump and filtering system, the pool is ready to go.

The main disadvantage of this sort of pool is that it’s less durable than other designs, and generally less attractive. It’s also less permanent, which can be a good thing, it’s relatively easy to disassemble the pool and move it to a new location.

In ground Pools- In ground pools are built into the ground and require construction work for installation. In ground pools can be built to allow for diving or not, depending on the depth. These are all samples of in ground pool materials.

Fiberglass pools -

These are made from fiberglass-reinforced plastic, which has been molded into a basin shape. To install the pool, a construction crew digs an appropriately sized hole, lays the necessary plumbing, adds some sand filler and lowers the preformed pool structure into the hole. Then they level the pool, hook up all the plumbing and backfill in the area around the pool. Usually, the pool is surrounded by a concrete deck structure.

While a fiberglass pool is typically the quickest to install, there are fewer choices for size, shape and depth compared to other pool types. Because the surface is non-porous, fiberglass pools are easy to care for and long lasting.

Vinyl-lined Pools-

Compared to other in ground pools, vinyl-liner pools are generally the most affordable, easy to maintain and are available in a standard set of designs. They are a lot like above-ground pools, structurally, but they look more like conventional in-ground designs. The construction crew digs a hole and assembles a metal, plastic or wood frame wall around the hole’s perimeter. As in an above-ground pool, the crew lays sand along the bottom of the hole and secures the vinyl lining to the structural wall.

These types of pools are popular in cold-weather states, since the panels have some degree of flex and hold up well under freeze/thaw conditions. Vinyl-liners are available in many colors, patterns and designs and will last an average of 8 to 10 years, after which time a new liner can be installed.

Gunite pools -

Gunite or a variation called Shotcrete is a type of reinforced concrete; it is strong and adaptable to unusual shapes. There are also a variety of color / speckle finishes available. To build one of these pools, the construction crew digs a hole, puts the plumbing in place and assembles a framework grid with 3/8-inch steel reinforcing rods (rebar). The rebar rods are spaced about 10 inches apart, and secured together with wire. When the grid is in place, the crew sprays a heavy coating of gunite, a mixture of cement and sand, around the rebar. The sprayer unit combines dry gunite mix with water just before spraying — this produces the wet concrete material. The crew trowels the gunite smooth and lets it sit for a week or so before applying a smooth finish to the rough surface. The most popular finish is called plaster but a lot of people finish their pools with special concrete paint.

Gunite pools can also have tile, exposed aggregate or even fiberglass finishes. Gunite pools (and their cousins, shotcrete pools) are highly durable, and they can be built in any shape or size.

Poured-concrete pools -

These are similar to gunite pools, but they’re a lot harder to build. Instead of spraying concrete material around a rebar framework, concrete is actually poured into conventional wooden forms. With the rise of gunite methods, poured-concrete pool construction has mostly fallen by the wayside. In masonry block pools, the walls are constructed with concrete blocks.

Pool styles

Play pool -

A play pool typically is no deeper than five feet. Play pools generally are built for cooling off and relaxing in, playing volleyball, other water sports, as well as for swimming laps

Diving Pool -

Diving pools are generally about 8-1/2 feet deep with a diving board or platform. Diving pools can be a real safety hazard, and should only be built to NSPI and ANSI standards.

Freeform Pool -

A freeform pool is a lagoon style pool or naturalistic pool. It usually has have rock features and is built to mimic an oasis.

Geometric Pool-

Geometric pools usually have very straight lines or or a consistent radius and are typically more traditional looking. There seems to be a shift back to the geometric pool. A geometric pool can be more formal and upscale looking.

Lap Pool-

Lap pools pools are typically narrow and long, usually over 50’, to facilitate exercise and swimming for health and fitness.

Negative Edge Pool-

Negative edge pools require an expert to build. They are also referred to as infinity swimming pools or infinity edge pools. These are designed to look like the pool extends all the way out to the horizon. The mechanics and engineering of infinity pools cannot be compromised.

Spool-

The word spool is a combination of a spa and a pool. Spools are typically oversized spas somewhere around 12’ X 14’. Unfortunately, due to construction issues, spools are not necessarily less expensive than an average swimming pool. They might be easier to maintain due to the smaller size, and a spool certainly might be an option for someone with a very small yard.

Perimeter Overflow Pool-

This would be a pool where the water level in the pool is the same as the top of the decking. Around the pool perimeter is a channel or notch that the water drains into creating a visual masterpiece. It looks like a big mirror lying on the ground.
