Time is of best nature when booking your contractor and the more you can stay away from peak seasons the better. Contractors are booking now and doing smaller jobs as we speak. there are some really great deals at this time of year. Vinyl siding is one that it is better to book now rather than latter.

Remember to ask contractors if there is a discount for booking in advance otherwise you will not get one. Most contractors can give a better deal this time of year. If your willing to get jobs done right away they will be more than willing to give you some kind of deal.

Contractors don’t have time for games with the average home owner they only have time for serious clients that are ready to book now! If a customer is just doing some price shopping it is not easy at this time of year by any means. People think if they get 10 contractor to come and look at there project that they will be able to choose better.

I believe that it even makes them more dumb! If your sitting in front of 10 estimates you will always choose the cheaper and then you will most times regret it latter. Good quality contractors are not cheap and they are always busy to.

If your booking in June call in June because the prices are different in the summer months. In fact the materials go up during those months. I we gave you a price in Feb that price is void in thirty day’s. You will not get the same price latter unless you payed in advance. Summer months are for bgger renovation jobs period.

What is a landscape contractor? A landscape contractor, simply put, is someone who implements the plans of a landscape architect or landscape designer. It is not really as simple as that. A landscape contractor must have experience in many areas of landscaping. Here is a short list of areas of experience that a landscape contractor must know:

Sprinklers. He must know how to install them and how to get effective cover of the entire area. He should know which heads to use over certain types of plants and flowers and which are good to use for your lawn.
Lawn. Are you going to lay sod or hydro seed? Your landscape contractor should be able to explain the difference along with the benefits of each.
Horticulture. Horticulture is the art of growing, planting, and caring for plants. He should understand the strengths and weaknesses of flowers, shrubs, trees and other plants that can survive in your area.
Rocks. There are many different uses for rocks. They can be used as ground cover, decoration, walls, waterfalls, and much more. Your chosen landscape contractor should be experienced in the different arts of rock work.
Fencing. There are various types of fencing that can be used in landscaping and a landscape contractor should understand your needs and the uses of the different fence materials to help you decide if vinyl or brick would suit your needs better.
Concrete. There may be instances in your landscape design that call for concrete and if concrete is not properly set it can shorten the life of the concrete by cracking and falling apart. An experienced landscape contractor will know how to work with concrete in the right way.
There is much more a landscape contractor should know, but these few things are the important ones.

The landscaping contractor you choose will be entrusted with your area to turn it from something bland into a work of art that you can be proud of. If the work is not done by a professional landscaper the finished product will not come close to the vision you have in your mind and possibly even on paper.

Another important quality the landscaper should have is the ability to communicate. You need to be able to understand each other. You may decide that you want to make a change from the plans and if there is a communication barrier, your idea may not be implemented the way you explained it.

This communication barrier is not always from understanding different languages. The contractor should be able to restate what you are saying to make sure it is clear that you both understand.

If possible either you or the landscaper should draw a picture of what you are meaning. The picture may not be a work of art its self, but you would be surprised how much it can help.

Vision Landscaping is a landscape contractor that can carry out your landscape design. They are an experienced

TIP # 1: Seek out at least 3 bids from swimming pool contractors.

Swimming pool construction is handled by specialized swimming pool contractors who are experienced in ground conditions and climate of the region. Make sure that your contractor has experience building swimming pools especially the type of swimming pool that you are interested in installing.  When you get your bids, look carefully at each swimming pool estimate to assure that you accurately compare one estimate with the next.  It is very easy to miss details when comparing estimates. You may even want to create a swimming pool spreadsheet to compare one pool estimate to other pool estimates.  Pay special attention to the types of materials that the contractor will use to construct the pool; project extras such as water to fill the pool, special features, energy efficient pumps, going green, salt systems, patio/decking; warranties on the swimming pool and equipment; project timelines and the types of pool equipment that the pool contractor will use such as pool filter, the pool pump, number of skimmers, returns, turnover rates, number of lights, steps, swimming pool vacuums, etc. Many companies will entice a buyer with low prices and then increase the price dramatically with extras that may be included in another pool company’s base pricing- make sure you compare the bids equally across the board. Try to use a company that sells the pool as a whole package to get better pricing or has an all-inclusive policy.

TIP # 2: Get at least 3 references to help you accurately assess the pool builder’s workmanship and customer service.

Ask the references about how and why they picked this contractor and about their experience work with the contractor.  Find out if any issues came up during the project and how they handled the issues.   Ask if they would have done anything differently in hindsight.  If you cannot see the finished swimming pool project first hand, ask the pool contractor for pictures. The nature of references is that almost every reference will be positive.   Do not depend on references to be a critical analysis of the pool contractor.  The reference should give you an idea of how the contractor works on the project and how specific projects and issues were handled. Also, ask for trade references to show relationships within the pool industry, ask for architects, engineers and project managers that have real working relationships with the pool company to show the strength of the pool company’s business.

TIP # 3: Plan your payment schedule and follow schedule.

Most projects involve subcontractors, employees, equipment suppliers and others that are paid as a project proceeds or as needs arise.  A delay in payment may slow down or even stop aspects of your project mid-stream.  A slowed or stalled swimming pool project almost always increases the overall cost of the pool project.  If you anticipate issues with the payment schedule, speak up early as the contractor may be able to move the project schedule around to protect you and your pool project. While you should not wrongly hold back payments, don’t make your final payment until your swimming pool is completed.Your previous payments during the project should ensure that construction and equipment, decking or fencing by the contract has been completed.  Your final payment is your strongest insurance that your pool project will be completed as agreed.  If you must make your last payment early, make sure that you get in writing  a list of what still needs to be completed and the timeline for the remaining tasks. Do not pay cash in a lump sum for

your swimming pool. Most contractors expect to receive money at stages during the project.  Contractors that request you to pay for the entire project in cash up front are operating illegally. Maryland Home Improvement Commission law states that a contractor can only take a 33% deposit.

TIP # 4 Communicate with your builder at all times.

Find out who will be responsible for supervising the work on your pool and keep in touch with them.  Find out their full name, office and cell phone and email if available.  Do not assume that the contractor will know what you are thinking about the progress of the project.  If concerns, questions or comments come up, you must let the builder know immediately.  Do not keep quiet or delay telling the builder.  Silence and delays will only increase the cost of correcting the problem.  Keep accurate records of all papers relating to your swimming pool. This information will help you maintain and take long term care of your pool.  Many of the questions that might come up over time about your pool will probably be answered in the papers that you received during the pool construction.

TIP # 5 Use web resources to help learn about and plan your project.

Finding a good pool contractor in Toronto is as simple as clicking the mouse button. All good pool contractors have their own web sites which describe their expertise in detail. You can compare the different contractors and choose the one which best suits your requirement.

The first thing that you must look for in a company specializing in pool building contracts is their approach to the project. A good contractor will begin the process with a concept review, detailed drawings are then produced. The building process will begin only once these are approved by the client. A good contractor will have the expertise to deal with the different requirements like electrical connections, gas and carpentry work.

A pool contractor in Toronto or elsewhere should have a sufficiently large staff. They should have the required inventory to ensure that the projects are handled efficiently and completed in time. The clients should have access to the various personnel on the team so that they can get custom-made pools.

A good contractor should be able to offer you a variety of materials like gunite, vinyl lining or concrete. They should be able to design and construct the pools in the shapes and sizes desired by their clients. The contractor should have the experience and expertise to construct different kinds of pools like in ground outdoor ones or indoor ones. They should also be able to provide you with a choice of special features like a spa or a retractable cover.

They should be able to ensure that the safety regulations are met. When looking for a pool contractor Toronto , you should also ascertain their expertise in related areas. For example, a pool contractor should also have the know-how and expertise in landscape design.

Another thing that you need to consider is that they should be certified by a regulatory body like the Pool and Hot Tub Council of Canada. All these facts regarding the pool contractor are usually available on their web site. Referring to the web site of a pool contractor will help you make an informed choice without any hassle.

If you are thinking about selling your house you might want to take a look around to see if there are any projects that could be done to help improve the overall value of your home. A home remodeling contractor can help you to take on these projects so that when you put your home on the market you have a better chance to sell your home with ease.

Even little things in a home can deter a potential buyer of your home. If you have vinyl floors in your bathrooms a home buyer might choose to keep looking. Without much expense these vinyl floors can be upgraded to give your home a more modern feel that will help you to attract buyers.

Bigger projects would include a kitchen remodel. A home remodeling contractor can help you put together a plan that will allow you to produce a large return on your investment. The kitchen is one of the first places many buyers look at when considering a home. Having this as a standout feature of your home might just be the way to seal the deal on the sale of your home.

Old carpet that might appear overly worn or stained is likely to leave a bad impression with potential home buyers. While cleaning the carpet might help to improve the look, sometimes taking an extra step can prove to be a better option. A person could opt just to replace the carpet with new carpet or even have hardwood or laminate floors installed.

Both can help entice buyers that your home is their dream home. For projects that you want to tackle in your basement, find a remodeling contractor that specializes in the area that can maybe help you come up with some unique ideas for the projects at hand.

What Should I Look For In A Home Remodeling Contractor

It is not always easy to find a home remodeling contractor that is reliable and produces high quality work. Ask around at work or with friends to see if they can provide a good recommendation.

Before deciding to go with any particular home remodeling contractor, verify that they are licensed, bonded, and insured. This helps to ensure you are hiring a professional who takes their work seriously and protects you during the process.

Do not be afraid to ask for references from anyone you are considering hiring to work in your home. These references can provide valuable insight into the type of work that you might expect to see from the contractor.

Remodeling your home can be a daunting task.  However, this task becomes a little less daunting with the help of a knowledgeable and skilled professional contractor who can not only guide you in the right direction, but also be trusted to complete the job efficiently and up to your personal standards. Tony Ishairzay Vice President of Professional Remodeling Group – a home remodeling company in Northern Virginia & himself being a residential remodeling contractor specializes in composite or wood decks, screened porches, vinyl energy efficient windows, vinyl siding, basement finishing, kitchen remodeling and other exterior remodeling.  With over 15 years of experience he offers a few tips on how you can choose the right home improvement company or right company for your home improvement needs.

First, Tony mentions that it is important that you are knowledgeable about your home improvement work you would like to have done. This means doing your homework so you can provide the home remodeling contractor with the information required for them to give you an appropriate estimate based on your goals. In addition, you will be able to understand the language used by Contractors for any kind improvement work and will be knowledgeable enough to communicate effectively. For instance finalizing purchase of quality graded energy efficient windows available in market.

Tony emphasizes that communication is key when hiring a Home Remodeling Company or Contractor. To ensure that you have accurate estimates to compare and contrast, it is also very important to give each Contractor from whom you are collecting bids, the same information on the scope of work which needs to be completed so that each estimate is on the same playing field. Materials can adjust a bid drastically so decide on which materials prior to getting your bids so all the estimates are apples and apples. It can get very confusing when you receive bids from multiple contractors that use different materials for the same job. For example; screened porches could be made up of wood, vinyl or aluminum. Also make sure contractors initial bids are exactly what you will be paying at the end of the job, make sure that tax, clean-up, permits, and other factors are all included from the beginning.

When meeting with several Home Improvement Contractors, you should look for a Contractor who is first of all licensed with the state and in good standing. Class A licensed contractor is recommended, they usually have the most experience and reliability.  Also see if they are affiliated with the Better Business Bureau, National Association of Home Builders, National Association of the Remodeling Industry, or another local building or remodeling association. Being able to see the Contractor’s previous work on a website is important, and you should be cautious when considering a Contractor who does not have a website. Any Company who has done good work in the past will be happy to give you references as a back up. For instance he may put up pictures of certain completed projects upon basement remodeling, screened porches or energy efficient windows on his website. When you finally find a Contractor you are impressed with, loyalty is important. Contractors will go out of their way for a loyal client, and this is important when dealing with your home.

If the Contractor does not prepare an estimate by the date requested, you should be warned that perhaps they are not efficient or dependable. Time is important in a remodeling job, and a rushed job will not necessarily turn out with the best quality. Therefore, it is essential to give the Home Remodeling Contractor a timeline, and to ask the Contractor what their timeline is and then see if they can stick to that. A prompt estimate is a good indication as to whether the Contractor will stick to a set schedule.

When gathering and reviewing each bid, Tony stresses that there are many things other than final cost which must be considered. Price is not the most important factor, because the age-old saying is true… “You get what you pay for.” Quality may not necessarily come at the cheapest price, so keep this in mind when reviewing bids from any Home Improvement Contractors.

The estimate should be detailed and include all the specifics regarding the work. If the estimate is too vague, you may want to reconsider hiring this company. By accepting a vague estimate you are leaving yourself susceptible to expensive “change orders.”  In addition, a Contractor who cannot guarantee their work will usually not stand up behind the quality of their work. A guarantee means the company will fix any problems you may have with their work, free of charge.

Tony Ishairzay says that when comparing bid prices of a home remodeling company, it is crucial to inquire about great discrepancies in price. A higher bid could be due to many reasons including a higher profit margin, omission of a part of the scope of the work, or greater overhead costs. Therefore, a higher bid may not necessarily mean you are getting better quality work.

Finally, when it is time to sign the contract make sure that certain things are included such as: a detailed payment schedule, design selections, scope of the work, explanation of the contractor’s warranty, references to architectural drawings, and construction schedule. Finally Tony Ishairzay, a home remodeling contractor in Northern Virginia warns not to hesitate to ask questions to make sure the contract is clear. The initial deposit may be paid before the work begins; however, the final payment should not be made until the work is 100% completed to ensure the work is completed in a timely and satisfactory manner.

Choosing a Gutter Contractor

The first thing you want to ask when getting an estimate is what gauge the aluminum is. Coil stock is sold in several thicknesses, including .032, .027, and .025 inch. The general rule of thumb is that thicker is better so be sure to specify the thicker .032 material.

Next you want to compare the price, the durability, maintenance requirements and warranties when buying gutters. The price of gutters range from about $4 to $20 per linear foot depending on the material you choose.

Finally, check the warranty. For gutters and accessories, look for a warranty that runs at least 20 years, though a lifetime backing is preferable. For labor, one-year coverage is the minimum. Also be sure the contractor has completion insurance, which continues coverage on the gutters if he goes out of business.

To ensure proper installation, check references, and drive by finished jobs. Ask your friends, neighbors and co-workers for suggestions. Check the local Better Business Bureau website. These are all good resources. You might also contact professional associations, the yellow pages, the Internet or ads in your local area. Just make sure you choose one with extensive knowledge of and experience with a variety of gutter systems and one that has an iron-clad policy of standing behind its products and installation. You’ll also want to make sure your contractor is:

licensed, insured and bonded

financially stable

an approved installer of a particular system

committed to quality control and safety procedures
